Kim Woo-bin Reveals Why He Openly Shared His Cancer Battle Story
Actor Kim Woo-bin has shared the reason behind his decision to openly discuss his battle with nasopharyngeal cancer on broadcast.
On the 9th, a video titled 'Waiting for Kim Woo-bin and Undelivered Mandu Fritters' was uploaded to the YouTube channel 'Badoderners BDNS'.
During the conversation, Moon Sang-hoon mentioned Kim Woo-bin's hiatus due to his cancer treatment, suggesting that period was like a 'vacation from the heavens' and that many people, including himself, drew strength from it. Kim Woo-bin responded, "I received so much support through shows like 'You Quiz on the Block'. Even after hearing the news, and especially after watching 'You Quiz', many people told me they were comforted. I was truly surprised."
He continued, "Normally, when someone is sick, they search online. But there are so many negative stories, which can make one feel worse. Sometimes, when I saw people on blogs who had recovered and were living their daily lives, even though they were strangers, I gained so much strength from them. I thought, 'I want to do that too.'"
Kim Woo-bin also emphasized the importance of things he once took for granted. "Eating three meals a day, working without issue, resting comfortably at home – thinking back, these are all things to be grateful for, but we, including myself, tend to overlook them. When I'm busy, I don't think about it, but through interviews, I reaffirm my mindset. The most important thing is health."
Previously, in May 2023, Kim Woo-bin appeared on tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block', where he referred to his 2017 nasopharyngeal cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment period as a 'vacation given by the heavens', drawing significant attention.
Netizens reacted positively to Kim Woo-bin's candid sharing, with comments like 'Thanks to you, actor Kim Woo-bin, I also gained strength. Always cheering for you!', 'Thank you so much for your honest story. Stay healthy!', and 'I want to emulate your positive mindset.'
