Solbi Reveals Her Artwork Prices: '400,000 KRW Per Pyeong,' Highest Sold Piece at 23 Million KRW
Singer and artist Solbi (real name Kwon Ji-an), who has been active as a painter for 13 years, surprised viewers by honestly revealing the prices of her artwork.
On the TV CHOSUN program 'Sikgaek Heo Young-man's White Rice Trip,' which aired on the 19th, Solbi and Heo Young-man embarked on a culinary journey to Changnyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do.
Meeting Heo Young-man at Upo Wetland, Solbi expressed her passion for painting while touring the swamp by boat. She remarked, "Seeing places like this makes me want to paint," showcasing her artist persona.
When Heo Young-man asked whether he should call her a singer or a painter, Solbi replied, "I go by Solbi as a singer, and use my real name Kwon Ji-an as a painter." She playfully added that she is in her 20th year as a singer, making her Heo Young-man's senior as he is in his 7th year on 'White Rice Trip,' eliciting laughter. Heo Young-man bowed his head in mock deference, calling her "Senior."
Now a painter of 13 years, Solbi has been recognized for her artistic talents, winning the Grand Prize at the Barcelona International Art Fair in 2021. She is currently active with upcoming solo exhibitions in Portugal and Daegu.
When Heo Young-man inquired about her painting prices, Solbi confidently answered, "It's about 400,000 KRW per pyeong (approx. 3.3 sq meters)." She further revealed, "The most expensive piece I sold went for 23 million KRW," astonishing everyone. Heo Young-man humorously responded, "I might have to switch to painting," sparking further laughter.
Solbi also recalled a past art performance during a music show, sharing, "It was a stage where I sublimated the pain and discrimination I experienced as a woman, but I received immense criticism." She also shared her recent endeavors as a scriptwriter, having started production on a short drama. Heo Young-man jokingly asked, "I'm envious. Have you thought about drawing comics?" before quickly changing his tune, "No, don't. You'll threaten my position," bringing another round of laughter.
Meanwhile, Solbi, who debuted in 2006 with the group 'Typhoon,' is solidifying her position as an artist, expanding her activities across various fields including painting and scriptwriting.
Netizens reacted with surprise to Solbi's candid revelation of her artwork prices, commenting, "Truly an artist's spirit," and "An artwork for 23 million KRW is amazing." Many also expressed support, saying, "Solbi seems more successful as a painter than a singer," and "It's great to see her multifaceted talents."
