ILLIT Collaboration Webtoon 'SUMMER MOON' to be Serialized in 6 Global Regions
The HYBE Original Story webtoon ‘SUMMER MOON: THE QUPRIDS’, a collaboration with the group ILLIT, is set to be serialized not only in Korea but also in six global regions including the United States and Japan.
HYPE announced that ‘SUMMER MOON’ will be translated into local languages for regions such as the US, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia, and will be released on Naver Webtoon's global service on October 20th and 21st (local time).
The webtoon is a K-school fantasy series depicting the chaotic daily lives of five ordinary high school girls who transform into 'magical girls' ahead of a school festival called the 'Summer Moon Festival'. Upon its release, it garnered significant attention from both fans and general webtoon readers for its relatable yet strong narrative, reflecting ILLIT's message, and for featuring magical girl characters inspired by the group's members.
Launched in Korea on August 4th, ‘SUMMER MOON’ immediately ranked high on Naver Webtoon's charts, securing 2nd place in the female category and 3rd place overall on the 'Rising Popularity Top 30' chart, and 4th and 5th respectively in the female and overall categories for 'Real-time New Releases'. The overwhelming demand from international fans for official translations in their respective languages led to the rapid expansion to six global regions.
A HYBE representative stated, "The enthusiastic response from readers during the domestic launch of ‘SUMMER MOON’ was the driving force behind the rapid global rollout," adding, "We will continue to leverage the synergy between artists and story intellectual properties to provide fans with diverse entertainment experiences."
International fans are expressing excitement, with comments like 'Can't wait to see the magical girls inspired by ILLIT!', 'So happy this will be available in my language!', and 'Hope it becomes a global hit like other HYBE stories!'.
