Kim Se-jeong Prepares for 'The Flowing River Over the Moon' as 'Perfectly Suited for Historical Dramas'
Actress Kim Se-jeong has completed her preparations to embody the character of Bak-dal in the upcoming MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'The Flowing River Over the Moon' (working title), aiming to be 'perfectly suited for historical dramas.'
The drama, set to premiere on October 31st at 9:50 PM, is a romance fantasy historical drama centered around an "easy-opposite" (Yi Di Si Zhi) concept where a crown prince who has lost his smile and a porter who has lost his memory switch souls.
In the series, Kim Se-jeong will portray Bak-dal, a porter whose life takes an unexpected turn when her soul swaps with the crown prince overnight, captivating viewers' hearts. Kim Se-jeong shared, "The soul-swapping romance aspect was intriguing, and knowing that my co-star would be Kang Tae-oh further solidified my belief and interest in this concept."
Her first foray into historical dramas has garnered significant attention, with viewers eager to see Kim Se-jeong's unique charm that can only be witnessed in 'The Flowing River Over the Moon.' She heightened anticipation by stating, "I tried on various outfits, including male attire, and though I felt a bit shy, I secretly thought I looked quite good in them. I believe viewers will also find enjoyment in the diverse costumes featured."
To authentically portray Bak-dal's Chungcheong dialect, Kim Se-jeong spent seven days in Boryeong. "By joining conversations with the elders there, I realized I could effectively utilize my existing dialect intonations. It might still be lacking, but I hope viewers will accept it as the character's speech and find it endearing," she revealed, sharing her passionate preparation process.
Furthermore, understanding the character of Yi-gang (played by Kang Tae-oh), whose soul swaps with Bak-dal, required deep immersion. "For the soul-swapping aspect, Kang Tae-oh and I engaged in extensive exchange and sharing. We even swapped lines to read the script differently or immediately discussed confusing parts to build ideas. I even researched and attempted to copy Kang Tae-oh's habits, speech patterns, and even his vocalization," she explained.
Kim Se-jeong expressed her special affection for the character, saying, "Bak-dal's bright and cool personality is quite similar to my own." She added, "The charm will likely lie in the diverse facets shown as we shift between Bak-dal's loveliness and Yi-gang's charisma. The title I wish to gain from this challenge is 'Perfectly Suited for Historical Dramas,'" she concluded with a witty ambition, further amplifying curiosity about 'The Flowing River Over the Moon.'
Kim Se-jeong's performance, equipped with her engaging wit and bright energy, can be seen in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama 'The Flowing River Over the Moon,' premiering on October 31st at 9:50 PM.
