Soyou Clarifies Allegations of Discrimination on US Flight Amidst Conflicting Accounts
Singer Soyou has once again addressed the controversy surrounding her claims of experiencing discrimination on a US flight.
In a lengthy social media post on the 20th, Soyou detailed her experience returning to Korea after a schedule in New York.
She emphasized that she had only consumed a small amount of alcohol at the lounge before boarding and encountered no issues during the boarding process. She explained that due to difficulties communicating in English, her request for a Korean-speaking flight attendant led to a misunderstanding, involving a purser and security, which was eventually resolved with the help of a Korean-speaking crew member.
However, Soyou alleged that subsequent events left her feeling humiliated. She recounted an instance where, while moving to the restroom, she was asked to step aside for a cart service. She complied, but the purser allegedly instructed her to leave the area in a high-handed manner. Further discomfort arose when a request for a Korean menu was met with a menu in another foreign language, she stated.
Soyou stressed that her intention in writing was not for compensation or exposure, but to prevent others from facing similar situations. Meanwhile, conflicting eyewitness accounts claiming Soyou was intoxicated during the flight have surfaced online, adding another layer to the controversy.
One netizen alleged that Soyou admitted to being drunk and requested a Korean attendant because she couldn't read the menu. Another commenter expressed embarrassment, stating that Soyou refused a meal due to intoxication and later framed the situation as racial discrimination.
Netizens are expressing mixed reactions, with some empathizing with Soyou's alleged experience while others question her claims due to the conflicting eyewitness accounts. Comments like "If Soyou's claims are true, that must have been very upsetting," and "I hope the truth comes out soon" are common.
