Seungri-Visited Club 'Prince Brewing' Shuts Down Amid Allegations of Prince Group's Criminal Ties
Prince Brewing, a club and pub reportedly operated by the Chinese-Cambodian conglomerate Prince Group (Prince Holdings), which has been implicated as the entity behind criminal activities in Cambodia, has ceased operations.
This establishment gained attention in the past when Seungri, a former member of the K-pop group BIGBANG, visited.
According to CBS No Cut News on the 21st, Prince Brewing has closed down and is currently undergoing preparations for a relaunch under a new owner.
Seungri had previously visited Prince Brewing. During a local event in Cambodia hosted by Prince Brewing in January of the previous year, Seungri controversially stated, "When I said I was going to Cambodia, my friends told me not to go. They asked if it wasn't dangerous." He then added, "Now I will tell those guys, 'Eat sh*t'."
He continued, "And I'll tell them to shut up and come here to see what kind of country Cambodia is. It's the most wonderful country in Asia." Seungri further ignited controversy by saying, "I will bring G-Dragon here someday."
Notably, Seungri danced to the song 'Good Boy' by G-Dragon and Taeyang, and those present at the event were heard shouting "G-Dragon."
The revelation of this incident at the time led to widespread public criticism. The fact that the venue was Prince Brewing has recently resurfaced, drawing renewed attention.
Prince Group is currently suspected of being behind the 'Taizijie' criminal organization, allegedly involved in organized human trafficking and illegal confinement. Chea Pheng, the chairman of Prince Group, is facing sanctions from the US and UK for his alleged role in masterminding criminal activities in Cambodia.
However, any direct connection between Seungri, Prince Brewing, and Prince Holdings has not been clarified. While Prince Brewing is known as a brand under Prince Holdings, it has also been reported that in Cambodia, such establishments often operate as standalone breweries and pubs.
Meanwhile, Seungri was a key figure in the 2018 'Burning Sun scandal,' which caused significant social controversy. He was later sentenced to 18 months in prison for charges including arranging prostitution for investors, violating the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, embezzlement, and overseas gambling totaling approximately 2 billion won. He was released in February 2023.
Korean netizens reacted negatively, commenting, "Places Seungri is involved with should fail," and "Nothing good ever comes from being associated with Seungri." Many suspect that the lack of a clearly stated connection between Prince Group and Seungri is deliberate concealment.
