Hwang Jung-min Reflects on His Return to Musicals with 'Mrs. Doubtfire': 'Learned a Lot from Jung Sung-ho and Jung Sang-hoon'

Actor Hwang Jung-min has shared his thoughts on returning to the musical stage after a 10-year hiatus with his new production, 'Mrs. Doubtfire.'

Speaking at the press call for the musical held at the Charlotte Theater in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on the 21st, Hwang Jung-min expressed his initial thoughts. "When I saw Jung Sung-ho perform during the premiere, I thought to myself that I wanted to do it too and that I could do it well," he said.

He candidly admitted the difficulty of the role, stating, "However, actually doing it is so hard. I have to create live music using a loop machine, and even a small mistake can have major consequences, making it feel like walking on thin ice." He also described the challenges of incorporating tap dance, rap, and dance, complex elements of musical theater, and expressed his gratitude, "I asked Jung Sung-ho and Jung Sang-hoon a lot and learned from them. I'm truly thankful to my juniors."

In response, co-star Jung Sung-ho praised Hwang Jung-min's diligence. "The role of Daniel requires acting, singing, dancing, and handling the loop machine. An actor who isn't diligent cannot play this part," he stated. "Hwang Jung-min is synonymous with diligence. Seeing him arrive 2-3 hours early to practice every day, I realized that the 'Ten Million Viewer Actor' title isn't just given. I was reminded once again that truly great actors emerge from purity and diligence."

'Mrs. Doubtfire' tells the story of a father, Daniel, who, after his divorce, disguises himself as a housekeeper to stay close to his children. Hwang Jung-min, Jung Sung-ho, and Jung Sang-hoon are all playing the dual role of Daniel and Mrs. Doubtfire. The musical will run until December 7th at the Charlotte Theater, Korea's first dedicated musical theater.
