Seo Dong-joo Buys Newlywed Home 20% Below Market Price Through Auction, Later Reveals Stalking Ordeal
Broadcaster Seo Dong-joo is drawing attention after revealing that she acquired her newlywed home in Chang-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, through an auction at approximately 20% below market value.
Seo Dong-joo announced her remarriage in June to a man working in the entertainment industry, who is four years her junior. The couple chose a detached house, built in the 1970s and since remodeled, as their marital home. The interior space measures about 20-21 pyeong (approx. 70-73 sqm).
"At first, it felt like ruins, but we felt a connection, thinking, 'This is our home'," Seo explained, detailing her motivation for participating in the auction. In a YouTube interview, she further shared, "My husband and I took auction courses and went to view properties. We secured it for over 20% less than the market price," astonishing many. Media reports indicate the winning bid was around 800 million KRW, a price considered lower than the average for detached houses in the area, which benefits from redevelopment plans.
However, Seo recently took to her social media to expose a stalking incident, sharing a recorded phone conversation. In the audio, an unidentified individual, referred to as 'A', attempts to confirm Seo Dong-joo's residence. In response, Seo Dong-joo declared, "Who are you?! Stop bothering my neighbors!" hinting at potential legal action.
Both the successful property acquisition through auction and the alarming stalking incident have placed Seo Dong-joo back in the spotlight.
Netizens praised her savvy real estate move, commenting, "It's amazing she managed to buy a home like this through an auction," and "It looks so spacious for a 20-pyeong home." However, concerns were also raised, with comments like, "I hope her address hasn't been exposed," and "Stalking is truly terrifying."
