Kim Yeon-koung Denies Scripted Reality for 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung,' Cites Editing for Intrigue

Volleyball legend Kim Yeon-koung has directly refuted claims that her MBC variety show, 'Rookie Director Kim Yeon-koung,' is scripted.

In a recent video uploaded to her YouTube channel, 'Sikppang Unnie Kim Yeon-koung,' titled 'Glamping in the Rain (with. JamJam),' Kim Yeon-koung shared moments from a glamping trip with her second elder sister.

During their conversation, her sister brought up the show's editing, particularly the cliffhanger endings. Kim Yeon-koung acknowledged, "They cut it off perfectly at the end. They cut it right at a scene that makes you really curious." Her sister chimed in, "Maybe they should show a little preview?" to which Kim Yeon-koung responded, "They probably wanted that kind of reaction. The editors might have been thinking about how it would turn out."

Addressing speculation about a script, Kim Yeon-koung firmly stated, "There is absolutely no script. That's why I think viewers feel the authenticity when they watch it." She elaborated, "I would have become like a robot. It would have been awkward. I filmed and trained from morning till night, and I didn't get a single day off for two and a half months. The genuine moments are what show on broadcast, and I didn't even realize my expressions would come out that way during filming."

Kim Yeon-koung expressed surprise at seeing her nervous and worried expressions on camera, revealing she even asked the director after filming, "Are you sure today was okay for broadcast? There wasn't much happening." The director reassured her, "Don't worry. It's all captured in your expressions." She found it fascinating that her moments of tension, anxiety, and deliberations about changing the team or atmosphere were all broadcast.
