Singer Ahn Chi-hwan's Battle with Stage 3 Colon Cancer Revisited on 'Hit Song 20th Century'
Singer Ahn Chi-hwan's past battle with colon cancer and subsequent recovery has been brought back into the spotlight.
During a chart show on the KBS Joy entertainment program 'Hit Song 20th Century' (abbreviated as 'Hit Song'), aired on the 31st of last month, Ahn Chi-hwan was featured at number 8 under the theme 'Singing Again! Singers Who Overcame Pain'.
Ahn Chi-hwan, widely loved for his hit song 'A Person is More Beautiful Than a Flower,' discovered cancerous cells in his colon during a health check-up in 2014 and underwent surgery. He was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer and endured a grueling year of treatment, including six weeks of radiation, 12 rounds of chemotherapy, and two surgeries. The ordeal led to a significant weight loss of 15kg.
Despite the difficulties, Ahn Chi-hwan felt his identity as a 'performer' remained, finding meaning in writing songs even in unfamiliar circumstances. When his condition allowed, he even recorded music, including the song 'I Am a Cancer Patient' on his 11th album, which conveyed his will to fight.
Fortunately, thanks to his dedicated recovery efforts, he has regained his health to the point where he can now perform on stage. His recovery was further cemented when he received a clean bill of health five years later, earning him widespread acclaim.
Netizens have expressed their support, with comments like, 'Thank you for singing again after overcoming such a difficult time,' and 'Health is the most important thing. Please continue to share your good music.'
