‘Dokbakz’ Explores Cheung Chau Island by Bicycle in Hong Kong, Kim Joon-ho Faces Humiliation Over ‘My Ugly Duckling’ Mention
The cast of ‘Dokbakz’ – Kim Dae-hee, Kim Joon-ho, Jang Dong-min, Yoo Se-yoon, and Hong In-gyu – recently unveiled the charms of a new Hong Kong travel experience with a bicycle trekking adventure on Cheung Chau Island.
In the 23rd episode of Channel S's ‘Nidonnesan Dokbak Tour 4’, aired on the 1st, the ‘Dokbakz’ members embarked on a ‘Hong Kong Island Tour’, enjoying a day on Cheung Chau Island, the fourth largest island in Hong Kong and a hidden gem for trekking.
Kicking off the episode with a parody of the K-pop group ‘8DOYZ’ as ‘Dokbak Boyz’, the cast immediately captured attention with their vibrant transformation. Driven by a mission to promote ‘K-culture’, they boarded a ferry bound for Cheung Chau Island.
During the ferry ride, they engaged in a game of ‘word chain with less than 10x repetition’ to determine who would pay for the round-trip ferry tickets. Kim Dae-hee came in last, marking the first ‘dokbak’ (paying for everyone) of the day. Upon arriving, the group visited a local congee shop, recommended by Yoo Se-yoon, to savor authentic Hong Kong-style congee. Following breakfast, they played ‘clothespin on face endurance’ to decide who would pay for the meal, with Yoo Se-yoon giving up first and becoming the next ‘dokbak’ winner.
For their main activity, the members headed to a bicycle rental shop for a trekking expedition. A game of ‘who can stay on the bicycle the longest’ was organized to decide who would cover the rental fees and snack expenses. In a surprising turn, Hong In-gyu displayed remarkable balance, narrowly beating Kim Joon-ho, only to end up pulling a three-person bicycle with him as the last-place finisher. While Jang Dong-min and Yoo Se-yoon comfortably rode behind, Kim Joon-ho and Hong In-gyu struggled uphill, eventually requiring the ‘masters’ to help push them to the scenic viewpoint.
While resting at the viewpoint, a local tourist approached Jang Dong-min, requesting a photo and expressing admiration for his appearance on the SBS variety show ‘My Ugly Duckling’ (MiUsae). Hearing this, Kim Joon-ho, a regular cast member on ‘MiUsae’ for four years, felt a pang of recognition-related embarrassment. Hong In-gyu attempted to console him with a peculiar compliment about Jang Dong-min’s unique looks, leaving Jang Dong-min flustered.
After the trekking, ‘Dokbakz’ moved to a glamping site booked by Hong In-gyu. They enjoyed outdoor games like archery and foot pool, deciding the boat and dinner expenses through further challenges, with Hong In-gyu and Kim Dae-hee each accumulating another ‘dokbak’. Later, while exploring the night market and enjoying a feast of dishes like sweet and sour pork and fried rice, the married cast members shared relatable anecdotes about married life and communication with their spouses, leading to much laughter.
The ‘Dokbakz’ journey, uncovering new facets of Hong Kong, will continue in the 24th episode of Channel S's ‘Nidonnesan Dokbak Tour 4’, airing on Saturday, the 8th, at 9 PM KST.
Netizens commented, “Cheung Chau Island looks so beautiful! I really want to visit,” and “Kim Joon-ho’s MiUsae mention was hilarious LOL,” expressing strong engagement with the show. Others added, “The Dokbakz members’ banter is the best.”
