Lee Young-ja Recounts Emotional Return to TV After Liposuction Controversy
Veteran entertainer Lee Young-ja has opened up about the intense emotions she experienced during her comeback to television following the controversy surrounding her liposuction.
While watching a VCR of Roy Kim's guerrilla concert on the March 1st episode of MBC's 'Point of Omniscient Interference,' Lee Young-ja was reminded of her own return to the stage in 2002.
"In that moment, when my eyes scanned the audience, I felt like my heart was tearing apart," she confessed. "I even thought to myself, 'It's okay if my life ends here.'"
Lee recalled the difficult period, stating, "There were incidents and accidents back then, and it was my comeback stage after a long hiatus. I was afraid people would condemn me, but the venue was packed."
The broadcast included footage from her 2002 appearance on MBC's 'Guerrilla Concert,' where she tearfully expressed her gratitude amidst roaring applause, saying, "Thank you for loving someone as insignificant as me. I will do better."
Lee Young-ja faced public scrutiny in 2001 when she initially hid her liposuction procedure, performed for weight loss, only admitting to it later, sparking a controversy over dishonesty. She subsequently halted her broadcasting activities for a period of self-reflection before making her return to the public eye the following year through 'Guerrilla Concert.'
Netizens have expressed empathy for Lee Young-ja's candid confession, sending messages of support. Comments like, "It's always good to see your genuine side," and "You must have had a tough time back then, thank you for being brave," are flooding in, showing their support for her continued broadcasting career.
