Actor Im Chae-moo Unveils Look-Alike Grandson, Emphasizes 'No Inheritance' Philosophy
Veteran actor Im Chae-moo revealed his grandson, Shim Ji-won, who bears a striking resemblance to him, and shared his unique business philosophy.
On the April 2nd broadcast of KBS2's 'Boss in the Mirror,' Im Chae-moo's daily life with his daughter, Im Go-woon, and 11-year-old grandson, Shim Ji-won, was showcased.
During a business meeting discussing the previous summer's outdoor pool operation, which incurred a deficit despite positive reception, Im Chae-moo expressed his financial struggles. His daughter proposed making future pool ventures paid to ensure profitability.
As the conversation unfolded, Shim Ji-won made an appearance, drawing attention for his uncanny resemblance to his grandfather. Im Chae-moo openly expressed his deep affection for his first grandson, stating, "I'm more curious and want to see him more than my wife or children right now."
Ji-won demonstrated sharp observational skills by pointing out a dangerously shaky structure in the pool area. Im Chae-moo praised his grandson's keen eye, remarking, "Ji-won found it well. He has a use for this," prompting co-host Kim Sook to exclaim, "He's the successor, isn't he?"
Later, the family visited a reptile shop run by rapper Outsider. When Ji-won showed interest in a Giant Aldabra tortoise, priced between 150 to 200 million KRW, he humorously pleaded, "Grandpa, please buy it all for me."
Addressing Ji-won's aspiration to become an actor, Im Chae-moo set strict conditions: "If you can endure all that, then become an actor." When asked about inheriting the Duriland theme park, he firmly stated, "I absolutely do not pass things down. You must achieve it with your own effort; something inherited cannot be sustained." He stressed the importance of personal endeavor.
Im Chae-moo also reflected on his past regrets about not spending enough time with his children due to his busy career, expressing a desire to create more memories with his grandson.
Netizens commented on the strong resemblance between Im Chae-moo and his grandson, with many praising the boy's intelligence and confidence. "He's the spitting image of his grandpa!" and "It's impressive how well-spoken and sharp the grandson is," were common remarks, alongside acknowledgments of Im Chae-moo's firm business principles.
