'Chef of Antarctica' Confirms Premiere Date, Promises a 'Meal of Support' Amidst Extreme Conditions
STUDIO X+U and MBC's climate and environment project, 'Chef of Antarctica,' has confirmed its premiere date, building anticipation among viewers.
The documentary is set to officially air starting Monday, November 17th.
Director Hwang Soon-kyu, who has been leading this project for over a year, emphasized, 'Antarctica is not just a filming location; it's an extreme environment where humans confront the climate crisis.' He previewed that the series would vividly capture the human struggle against climate change in these harsh conditions, stating, 'A single meal there wasn't just a routine; it was a moment to confirm the crew's survival.'
Antarctic bases face severe logistical challenges, with food supplies only replenished once a year in December. Director Hwang described the situation upon their arrival in November: 'We brought no ingredients from Korea, so the pantry on our visit was almost empty.' He revealed, 'You will witness the process of preparing a 'meal of support' for international crew members using frozen ingredients and limited supplies, and glimpse the diverse food cultures of different bases.' The documentary aims to realistically portray life at the Antarctic base through mealtime.
'Chef of Antarctica,' returning 13 years after 'Tears of the Antarctic,' will be first released on U+mobiletv and U+tv on Monday, November 17th at 00:00 AM. MBC will broadcast the first episode on the same day at 10:50 PM.
Netizens expressed excitement, commenting, 'It seems like it will truly show how tough life in Antarctica is,' 'I always trust PD Hwang Soon-kyu's documentaries. This one will likely be deeply moving too,' and 'It's been 13 years, I'm really looking forward to it!'
