LG Electronics' innovative modular home, 'Smart Cottage,' is gaining industry attention by merging sustainable living with wellness.

Executive Director Lee Hyang-eun of LG Electronics' HS Division, who is leading this project, emphasized that the Smart Cottage is not merely a technologically advanced dwelling but a 'system for life recovery.'

Director Lee explained, "The Smart Cottage isn't centered on technology itself, but is a 'life recovery system' designed to harmonize with people's rhythms. The key is for technology to invisibly support individual biorhythms and provide a stable environment, rather than being overtly prominent."

The HS Division defines wellness as 'the humanization of technology that enhances quality of life,' embedding a philosophy that products should be caregivers of emotions beyond mere functionality into the Smart Cottage.

Following the pandemic, as the perception of 'home' shifted towards a 'platform for self-recovery,' LG Electronics judged it necessary to evolve beyond 'Smart Home' to 'Wellness Living,' and the Smart Cottage is one of the outcomes.

Director Lee added, "The Smart Cottage provides a 'container' for living a wellness lifestyle, and by allowing wellness appliances and services to be 'contents' within it, we can deliver a complete wellness value to customers."

Notably, as an AI Home, it precisely controls physical elements like air, light, and temperature, while also applying 'emotional interface design' that stabilizes emotional fluctuations through scent, sound, and lighting tones, thereby balancing technology and emotion.

Furthermore, its solar-powered energy self-sufficiency system and the prefabricated construction method, with over 70% of components made off-site, led to achieving the highest rating, 'ZEB Plus,' for zero-energy buildings. This also contributes to the everyday practice of ESG and local economic vitalization, realizing 'people-centered sustainability.'

Director Lee anticipates the future of the wellness industry, stating it "will become essential infrastructure," and foresees the Smart Cottage expanding into future urban 'micro retreats.'
