Ji Chang-wook & Do Kyung-soo Unleash Fiery Diss at 'The Tyrant' Press Conference
The press conference for Disney+'s upcoming original series, 'The Tyrant' (tentative title), was held on November 3rd at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
Director Park Shin-woo, alongside lead actors Ji Chang-wook, Do Kyung-soo, Kim Jong-soo, Lee Kwang-soo, and Jo Yoon-soo, were present to discuss the highly anticipated drama.
'The Tyrant' is an expansion of the 2017 film 'Fabricated City' into a series. It tells the story of Park Tae-joong (Ji Chang-wook), a man whose life is shattered after being wrongfully accused, as he embarks on a desperate revenge against the powerful forces that manipulated his destiny.
Ji Chang-wook portrays Park Tae-joong, a character whose life is overturned overnight. He navigates a tumultuous journey of despair and rage, transforming from an ordinary man into a being consumed by intense fury.
"I'm playing a very ordinary character," Ji Chang-wook explained. "Tae-joong is a diligent person who always pursues his dreams. However, he becomes involved in a plot and experiences rock bottom in an instant. Upon discovering the veiled incident and the mastermind behind it, he sets out to pursue Yohann."
He further elaborated, "My goal is to immerse myself in the situation and fully express the emotions, and to ensure viewers can follow along. For Tae-joong, Yohann is someone I would consider 'killing him wouldn't even be enough.'"
Do Kyung-soo takes on the role of Ahn Yohann, the architect who manipulates others' lives, marking his first venture into playing an antagonist. Yohann is a truly heinous villain who arbitrarily controls and ruins other people's lives.
"Yohann is a sculptor who designs incidents and shapes other people's lives," Do Kyung-soo shared. "I focused on how to make Yohann appear chilling. I paid close attention to his hairstyle and found flamboyant suits to wear. Since this is not an experience I can personally have, I watched many documentaries to expand my imagination."
He added, "To Yohann, Tae-joong is like a cockroach. He's a very bothersome character with long-lasting vitality, someone who keeps crawling back even when you try to kill him."
Comprising 12 episodes, 'The Tyrant' will premiere on November 5th with four episodes released on Disney+, followed by two new episodes released weekly.
Korean netizens are buzzing about the intense exchanges between the two lead actors. Comments like "Their character interpretations are incredible!", "Already anticipating the thrilling confrontation", and "Do Kyung-soo's first villain role, I have to watch it live" highlight the high expectations for the drama.
