MIYEON of (G)I-DLE Returns with Second Mini-Album 'MY, Lover', Unveiling Autumnal Pop Ballad 'Say My Name'
MIYEON, the main vocalist of K-pop group (G)I-DLE, is set to make her comeback with her second mini-album after a hiatus of three years and six months.
The album, titled ‘MY, Lover’, will be released on November 3rd at 6 PM KST across various online music platforms. This marks her first solo release since her debut mini-album ‘MY’ in 2022, featuring a total of seven tracks that showcase her evolved musical artistry.
Since her debut with (G)I-DLE in 2018, MIYEON has established herself as a representative vocalist in K-pop, renowned for her powerful and delicate vocal performances in hit songs like ‘TOMBOY’, ‘Queencard’, and ‘I DO’. She further solidified her solo artist identity by releasing her self-composed track ‘Sky Walking’ as a digital single last year, proving her capabilities as a singer-songwriter.
While her first mini-album ‘MY’ focused on her own existence, ‘MY, Lover’ explores the emotions of love from various perspectives. It narrates a journey through moments of separation, lingering feelings, regret, reminiscence, overcoming, and devotion, culminating in a mature self-reflection. MIYEON actively participated in the album's creation, contributing to the lyrics of ‘F.F.L.Y’ and ‘You And No One Else’, clearly defining her unique musical color.
The album includes seven tracks: the title song ‘Say My Name’, the pre-released track ‘Reno (Feat. Colde)’, ‘Space Invader’, ‘Petal Shower’, and ‘Show’.
The pre-released song ‘Reno (Feat. Colde)’, unveiled on October 28th, features a blend of minor electric guitar loops, a heavy beat, and MIYEON's diverse vocals. The song depicts love turning into obsession, reaching a catastrophic point, with a featured appearance by Colde adding a unique tension. The accompanying music video, starring actor Cha Woo-min, garnered attention for its sensuous visuals reminiscent of a western noir and MIYEON's captivating performance.
Upon its release, ‘Reno’ achieved top rankings on domestic and international music charts, including 2nd place on the Bugs real-time chart and 1st place on the iTunes Top Song chart in Peru.
The title track ‘Say My Name’ is an autumnal pop ballad perfectly suited for the season. Co-written by Sofia Kay, known for her work with numerous K-pop artists, and penned by lyricist Isran, the song boasts high production quality. The delicate piano melodies, rhythmic beat, and MIYEON's powerful vocals harmonize to maximize the melancholic emotions of farewell. Fans have already praised snippets of the song, calling it "the essence of autumn" and highlighting "MIYEON's shining vocals."
Concept photos released for the album visually represent the song's theme, with MIYEON holding a desk clock or running through a tunnel, symbolizing the loneliness and longing of separation. The music video, released alongside the album, is expected to deliver a sensuous and unique atmosphere complementing the song.
A representative from her agency, Cube Entertainment, stated, "MIYEON will demonstrate her growth as a vocalist and singer-songwriter through this album. As the songs are perfectly suited for the autumn season, we ask for your great love and support."
MIYEON’s second mini-album ‘MY, Lover’ is officially available on all major music platforms starting November 3rd at 6 PM KST.
Korean netizens are expressing high anticipation, with comments like "So excited for MIYEON's comeback!", "It already feels like autumn vibes", and "This album is definitely going to be a masterpiece."
