Choi Byung-mo Warms Up 'The Last Summer' with Heartfelt Portrayal of Architect Baek Ki-ho
Actor Choi Byung-mo is raising the temperature of the drama with his warm presence in KBS2's weekend mini-series 'The Last Summer'.
'The Last Summer' is a romance drama that unfolds as a man and woman, childhood friends, confront the truth about their first love hidden within Pandora's box. Choi Byung-mo plays the role of architect Baek Ki-ho, captivating viewers with his witty yet humane performance.
In the first episode aired on the 1st, the peanut house issue involving the families of Ha-kyung (Choi Sung-eun) and Ki-ho, and Do-ha (Lee Jae-wook), who have a long-standing relationship, officially surfaced. Although Ha-kyung was managing the peanut house at Ki-ho's request, a problem arose with the sale when the ownership was changed to Do-ha. Upon receiving an angry call from Ha-kyung about this, Ki-ho gave an embarrassed smile. He humorously remarked, 'He even came all the way here asking for the title as a birthday present. The only thing he ever pestered me to buy was that ash tree,' before cheekily ending the call, citing his busy schedule, which brought laughter to the viewers.
Later, at the construction site, Ki-ho reunited with his son Do-ha, his expression noticeably brighter. He beamed with pride as Do-ha, from the moment he arrived, persuaded and organized the foremen and workers who were arguing with him, acting as an architect. The actor also excitedly walked with his son, despite limping due to his injured leg, during his rare visit to his son's workplace.
Furthermore, when Ha-kyung's name came up, he jokingly confessed, 'I get more calls from Ha-kyung than calls about changing my phone,' revealing his affectionate concern for both Do-ha and Ha-kyung.
In the second episode, a flashback depicted the father and son moving into the peanut house for the first time. As the young Do-ha explored the new house, touching the walls, Ki-ho handed him a toolbox and encouraged him, 'Baek Do-ha, today is your architect debut. Try drilling it yourself.' This scene conveyed Ki-ho's supportive affection, firm belief, and consideration for his son's dream, eliciting a heartwarming smile.
Choi Byung-mo is naturally blending realistic fatherly love and human warmth, gently leading the drama's atmosphere. His chemistry with Lee Jae-wook as an architect father and son serves as another viewing point. Moreover, he solidifies his presence as a 'healing character' who balances the drama with his unique cheerful energy amidst the conflict between Lee Jae-wook and Choi Sung-eun.
Choi Byung-mo, who is loved for meticulously portraying character nuances and delivering realistic everyday acting in every project, is garnering anticipation for his continued performance in 'The Last Summer.'
