YouTuber Kwak Hyul-soo Reveals Shocking Ordeal of Sexual Assault and Secondary Abuse

YouTuber Kwak Hyul-soo, who boasts 200,000 subscribers, has come forward with a harrowing confession of sexual assault by a taxi driver, further igniting controversy with revelations about secondary abuse experienced during the investigation.

On May 2nd, Kwak Hyul-soo uploaded a video titled 'It Took a Long Time to Say This' on her YouTube channel. In the video, she detailed the traumatic incident that occurred in the early morning of May 23, 2024. Kwak explained that she took a taxi home after drinking in Seoul. She claims to have lost consciousness in the backseat due to intoxication, after which the taxi driver parked in her apartment's parking lot and proceeded to sexually assault her in the backseat.

Following the incident, Kwak has been undergoing treatment at an OB/GYN clinic for over 1.5 years. She disclosed suffering side effects such as hair loss due to overdose of medication during her treatment. Expressing frustration with the investigative authorities, Kwak stated, 'Our country's litigation system forces victims like me to suffer for years.' She further shared a shocking encounter with an investigator who asked, 'Why didn't you report it when you were sexually assaulted?'

Kwak, who primarily focuses on mukbang (eating broadcasts) and diet content, revealed the immense difficulty of continuing her YouTube activities while hiding this ordeal. 'I spent 330 out of 365 days crying,' she confessed, adding, 'It was unbearable to live while hiding it. I felt I had to speak out because it was so suffocating.'

Concluding her message, Kwak offered solidarity to all victims, saying, 'I want to be a source of strength for all victims in the world.' She expressed hope for a shared journey of healing and resilience: 'Let's try to live well together.'
