'Unavoidable Fate' Captivates Audience with Special Screening Alongside World-Renowned Cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras
The film 'Unavoidable Fate,' which has enthralled audiences with its thrilling yet humorous narrative and the exceptional synergy of its cast, successfully concluded its special screening event held on Sunday, November 2nd.
Directed by Park Chan-wook and distributed by CJ ENM, 'Unavoidable Fate' tells the story of 'Man-su' (played by Lee Byung-hun), a company employee who felt his life was perfectly satisfactory until he was abruptly laid off. The film follows his determined battle to protect his wife, two children, and the home he worked hard to afford, as he prepares for his fight to get re-employed.
Amidst a fervent wave of repeat viewings and sustained box office success, the film held a special screening at CGV Bucheon alongside the world-renowned cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras. Queyras, who performed the piece 'Le Badinage' featured in the film's climax, left a deep impression on the audience. Prior to the screening, he expressed his sincere gratitude to the attendees during a stage greeting.
"I was deeply impressed by 'Unavoidable Fate' for its masterful handling of the profound theme of human psychological patterns through a black comedy format," Queyras stated. "I am grateful to Director Park Chan-wook and Music Director Cho Young-wook for allowing me to be a part of this work. I hope 'Unavoidable Fate' continues its journey of great success across the globe."
Adding to the excitement, child actress Choi Yul, who portrays 'Ri-won,' the daughter of 'Man-su' and 'Mi-ri' (played by Son Ye-jin), made a surprise appearance at the stage greeting. As 'Ri-won' is depicted as a cello prodigy in the film, her encounter with Jean-Guihen Queyras, who actually performed the music, held special significance. Furthermore, prior to the screening, the attendees of Queyras's concert in Korea at the Bucheon Arts Center included actress Yeom Hye-ran, who plays 'A-ra,' actor Ju In-young, who plays the 'cello teacher' recognizing 'Ri-won's' talent, and Music Director Cho Young-wook.
With the successful conclusion of its special screening with Jean-Guihen Queyras, 'Unavoidable Fate' is steadily heading towards the 3 million audience mark, offering a lingering resonance that deepens with each viewing. Park Chan-wook's latest film, praised for its ensemble cast, dramatic plot, beautiful mise-en-scène, solid direction, and added black comedy elements, is currently being celebrated in theaters nationwide.
Korean netizens are expressing their excitement, with comments like, "It's like a dream to watch the movie with Jean-Guihen Queyras!" and "The cello performance in the climax was amazing, I didn't know it was played by the cellist himself." Many are also praising the actors, noting, "Lee Byung-hun's acting is always top-notch, and the chemistry between Son Ye-jin and Choi Yul was great too."
