Jang Sung-kyu Recounts Humiliating Wedding Invitation Experience with Senior Colleague

Broadcaster Jang Sung-kyu, formerly an announcer, shared a past anecdote where he was disregarded by a senior colleague while attempting to deliver a wedding invitation.

A recent video uploaded to his YouTube channel, 'Manri Jang Sung-kyu', titled 'Jang Sung-kyu's Story of Being Ignored by a Senior When He Was a Rookie', detailed the incident.

During the segment, Jang Sung-kyu discussed his criteria for handing out wedding invitations. He explained, "After much thought, during my time at JTBC, I felt it would be awkward to give invitations to some seniors and not others. So, my intention was to give them out with the understanding that they didn't have to come, but I wanted to extend the gesture."

He continued, "So, I gave them to all the employees, all the reporters in the news department. But one senior reporter asked me, 'Are you and I close, Sung-kyu?' I replied, 'We're not particularly close, but if you're uncomfortable, I can take it back.' And he told me to take it back."

Upon hearing this, fellow announcer Kim Ki-hyuk expressed shock, asking, "He told you to take it back? Without even receiving it?" Jeon Min-gi added, "He must have really disliked you back then."

Jang Sung-kyu then revealed the surprising twist: "But I ended up working on the morning news with that same senior. It was crazy!" He elaborated, "But the senior brought it up first. He said, 'It's not because it's you, Sung-kyu, I'm just generally like this. I apologize, and let's get along well from now on.' He was very straightforward about it. Now, he's someone I really like."

He concluded by reflecting, "I was a bit taken aback then. It made me realize that while I might have my own thoughts about giving out invitations, the recipient's perspective can be very different." Jeon Min-gi also chimed in with empathy, saying, "I probably spent about a week writing and rewriting my list for wedding invitations."

Jang Sung-kyu married his elementary school classmate, Lee Yu-mi, in 2014 and they have two sons.
