Jun Ji-hyun Not Joining Spy Drama 'The Koreans', Considering 'Human X Gumiho'
Actress Jun Ji-hyun will not be participating in the upcoming drama 'The Koreans'.
On the 4th, Jun's agency, Culture Depot, officially stated to OSEN, "'The Koreans' was one of several projects under consideration, but we have ultimately decided not to proceed with it."
'The Koreans' is a spy drama set to be a Korean remake of the popular American FX series 'The Americans'. The project was slated for direction by Ahn Gil-ho and had already confirmed actor Lee Byung-hun's participation, drawing significant anticipation.
While the original series depicted the Cold War era of the 1980s, the Korean version was expected to offer a unique take set against the backdrop of South Korea's military dictatorship period. Jun Ji-hyun was anticipated to play the role of Lee Byung-hun's wife, a pairing that generated considerable buzz.
Previously, Jun's side had clarified, "It's true that actress Jun Ji-hyun received a casting offer from the 'The Koreans' production team, but her participation was not confirmed." At the time, her agency explained that her next project, apart from 'The Corpse', had not been decided, and 'The Koreans' was being reviewed alongside other potential roles.
Ultimately, after careful consideration, Jun Ji-hyun has decided against joining 'The Koreans'. She is currently positively reviewing a casting offer for the new drama 'Human X Gumiho', alongside actor Ji Chang-wook.
Meanwhile, Jun Ji-hyun recently appeared in the Disney+ drama 'Polaris', which concluded its run.
Korean netizens expressed mixed feelings, with comments like 'It's a shame she won't be in 'The Koreans', I was looking forward to her chemistry with Lee Byung-hun' and 'She's carefully choosing her next project, hoping 'Human X Gumiho' is a good fit'. Many are curious about the plot of her potential new drama.
