Global Harmony: 100 Youth from 4 Nations Unite Through BTS's 'Dynamite' in Online Orchestra Project
A remarkable cultural fusion took place as young musicians from four countries came together, virtually, to create a stunning orchestral rendition of BTS's global hit, 'Dynamite'.
The 6th World Youth Online Concert, organized by Mun-san-su-eok High School in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, showcased a harmonious collaboration involving approximately 100 teenagers from South Korea, Japan, the United States, and South Africa.
Despite never meeting in person, these students connected through their shared passion for music. They each recorded their performances from their respective locations, and these individual videos were masterfully edited together to form a grand online orchestra, symbolizing youth cultural exchange bridging the world.
This project is hailed as a unique instance where K-pop, represented by BTS's 'Dynamite,' transcended its genre and language barriers, translated into the universal language of classical music. The resulting performance, released on YouTube, has garnered warm reactions both domestically and internationally.
Ms. Seo Hyun-sun, the supervising teacher, commented, "BTS's 'Dynamite' is a song symbolizing hope for youth worldwide. Witnessing its energy reborn through orchestral melodies made us feel that music is truly the universal language that connects the world."
Initiated in 2020 amidst the COVID-19 pandemic with the belief that "even if stages close, music does not stop," the World Youth Online Concert has evolved over six years into a vibrant platform for global youth in arts and culture, with students now participating voluntarily.
Ms. Seo further reflected on the spirit of Korean independence activist Kim Gu, stating, "We re-experienced the meaning of becoming a nation that moves the world through culture with the children." She added, "This performance is a record of friendship forged not just by technical skill, but by sincerity and passion."
Participants shared their experiences, with one student saying, "Playing BTS's song together connected our hearts," and another noting, "Even though our languages are different, music was one," underscoring the 'little peace' created among global youth through music.
Korean netizens are impressed, leaving comments like, 'This is amazing! K-pop and classical music meeting is so fresh and moving,' and 'I teared up seeing the passion of these kids. The power of music is incredible!' Many expressed anticipation for future concerts, adding, 'Rooting for world peace!'
