Im Chang-jung Meets Cult's Billy for 'If I Hug You' Remake; Calls Him 'Like a Brother'

Singer Im Chang-jung, who is set to release a remake of the 1995 hit song 'If I Hug You' (literal translation), shared a meaningful time with the original artist, Cult member Billy (Son Jeong-han).

An interview video released on the official YouTube channel of Jiz Star on the morning of the 5th revealed the deep connection between the two artists that dates back to the 90s.

Billy reminisced about the past, saying, "When I was active, Im Chang-jung started with 'To Me' and we appeared on broadcasts together a lot." Im Chang-jung responded, "Although we haven't been in touch much recently, he's like a blood brother to me. Back then, his songs were among my favorites, and I often sang 'If I Hug You' in front of him."

Im Chang-jung expressed his sincere gratitude to Billy for readily granting permission for the remake. Billy replied, "Actually, it's an honor for me. I was so excited about you remaking this song and even doing a duet stage with me that I couldn't sleep."

Upon hearing Im Chang-jung's remake, Billy praised his vocal skills and expressiveness, stating, "Your vocal talent is recognized in Korea." Im Chang-jung added, "I tried hard to imitate your detailed nuances, and I strived to sing it with the masculine sensibility of that era."

Both artists expressed their excitement about preparing for a joint performance. Im Chang-jung said, "Our voices blend well. I feel like we're recreating that moment when we used to sing it together at karaoke rooms," conveying his overwhelming emotions. Billy also shared, "It's so meaningful to be able to present this song again with Im Chang-jung," heightening anticipation for their upcoming duet.
