Kim Bo-eun Reveals Shocking Career Path from Social Worker to Dump Truck Driver on 'You Quiz'
Kim Bo-eun, a dump truck driver, shared her surprising career journey and the reasons behind her transition to the profession on the popular tvN variety show 'You Quiz on the Block'.
Appearing on the May 5th episode, Kim Bo-eun, dubbed the 'Youth on the Road,' detailed her experiences driving large dump trucks.
Having been in the profession for five years, she explained that her work primarily involves transporting construction materials such as soil, raw stones, gravel, and sand from construction sites. While she previously operated mainly in the Seoul metropolitan area, including Incheon and Gimpo, she has since returned to her hometown of Yeosu and now drives routes within the industrial complexes of Namhae, Suncheon, and Gwangyang.
Before becoming a dump truck driver, Kim Bo-eun worked as a social worker for two years. She described the role as the 'warmest and most rewarding' job she's ever had, but admitted that the significantly low pay made it unsustainable in the long run.
Following her social work career, she ventured into the Dongdaemun wholesale market, achieving remarkable success with daily sales reaching up to 30 million KRW through effective marketing. However, this too wasn't her passion, leading her to launch a personal clothing online mall.
Her online shopping mall business coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, forcing her to abandon the venture after just one year and depleting her savings. In a moment of desperation, her brother, who was also a dump truck driver, suggested the profession, mentioning potential earnings of 10 million KRW. This sparked her interest.
Despite holding a 'dormant license' (implying minimal driving experience), she immediately obtained a heavy vehicle license and began her career as a dump truck driver.
Netizens reacted with admiration for her resilience and adaptability. Comments included, 'She's truly amazing, it's not easy to do what you love and earn a living,' and 'It's wonderful she found fulfillment as a social worker, I hope she holds onto that spirit.' Many also expressed curiosity about the profession, with one user asking, 'I'm interested in dump trucks too, how hard is it? She's so cool!'
