JYP's Park Jin-young Reveals Behind-the-Scenes of Accepting Presidential Committee Role: 'For the K-Pop Ecosystem'

Park Jin-young, CEO Producer of JYP Entertainment, has revealed the story behind his decision to accept the co-chairmanship of the Presidential Committee on Cultural Exchange.

Initially, he declined the offer multiple times over three months. However, after the Presidential Office addressed his concerns one by one, he found no reason to refuse. "I wanted to do things that couldn't be done at the company level for the K-pop industry," Park explained as the reason for his acceptance.

He clarified his political stance, stating, "Capitalism heavily favors the wealthy if the government doesn't intervene, necessitating progressive policies to protect the less fortunate. However, excessive protection can drive investors away, so conservative policies are also needed." He emphasized, "I have no intention of aligning with any political camp. I am Park Jin-young, neither progressive nor conservative."

Park stressed his commitment beyond his company's interests: "I will work for the K-pop ecosystem as a whole." The committee includes executives from the four major entertainment agencies: Jang Cheol-hyuk of SM Entertainment, Lee Jae-sang of HYBE, Yang Min-seok of YG Entertainment, and Jeong Wook of JYP Entertainment.

Separately, Park Jin-young confessed his desire to debut his two young daughters, aged five and six, as a girl group. "My daughters seem to have inherited my 'showbiz DNA'," he said. "My eldest has extraordinary dancing skills, and my second is a good singer. If possible, I really want them both to become singers." He even mentioned, "Rain and Kim Tae-hee also have two daughters. If we secure four members, perhaps we can form a girl group."

Netizens reacted positively to Park Jin-young's acceptance of the committee role, with comments like "It's great to see his efforts for K-pop" and "Glad he drew a clear line on political matters." However, his comment about potentially debuting his daughters as a girl group received mixed reactions, with some finding it premature and others emphasizing the importance of the children's own wishes.
