G-Dragon Reflects on 'Truman Show' Exit and His Evolution as an Artist

Singer G-DRAGON shared his artistic philosophy and genuine thoughts in a recent appearance on MBC's 'Questions with Sohn Suk-hee 3.'

Having recently been appointed an APEC official ambassador and receiving the 'Eokgwan Cultural Merit Medal' at the 'Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards,' G-DRAGON has solidified his status as a leading Korean artist. Facing Sohn Suk-hee for the first time in 10 years after a long period of silence, he delved into his journey as 'human Kwon Ji-yong returning to reality after ending 'The Truman Show,'' sharing profound insights into his artistic philosophy, sincerity, and new beginnings.

Reflecting on his comeback after a year-long hiatus, G-DRAGON calmly discussed his artistic direction and inner changes. He shared, 'Ten years ago, my entire life was fundamentally about activities as 'G-DRAGON,' so I constantly pushed myself, striving for perfection and excellence.' He added, 'During my break, I've learned to switch between work and life. I've gained a sense of leisure, and each day feels precious.'

G-DRAGON also revealed that the advice, 'Don't lose your touch,' given by Sohn Suk-hee a decade ago, has long stayed with him. He confessed his musical struggles, stating, 'There's the verb 'to do.' Whether it's 'not doing,' 'can't do,' or 'doing well,' ultimately 'doing' is the same, so you have to choose wisely. If you're going to do it, you want to do it well, but I constantly ponder how often public perception aligns with one's choices and outcomes. Now, I feel I'm getting closer to a satisfactory answer.'

He further explained the story behind his third full album, 'Übermensch.' G-DRAGON mentioned, ''Übermensch' was one of the driving forces that helped me endure my break. I wanted to introduce this word because it felt like something I could recall when various situations and environments changed.' He added, ''PO￦ER' is a humorous satire on the media. During difficult times, the only thing I could do was express myself through music, and the song was written based on my experiences.'

Notably, he likened his life to the movie 'The Truman Show.' 'During an extremely sensitive period, absurd things kept happening, and I felt like I was inside 'The Truman Show',' he confessed, sharing stories of how he became stronger after leaving that 'show' and returning to reality, resonating with the audience.

'When I was young, I didn't quite understand, but the desire to show more to people led to practice, and through learning, it became my dream. Regarding his plans after his current activities, he said, 'I think a comma is necessary. After the comma, I plan to prepare for a new beginning.' He also mentioned BIGBANG, who will celebrate their 20th anniversary next year, saying, 'As we approach our 20th anniversary, I feel like a 30th anniversary is possible, so I'm already thinking about it.'
