Singer WOODZ Reveals Past Soccer Scholarship in Brazil: 'Thought I Was Messi'
Singer WOODZ (Cho Seung-youn) has revealed his past extraordinary experience of studying soccer in Brazil.
In a new episode of the YouTube channel 'DdeunDdeun', titled 'Discharging Duty is Just an Excuse', released on the 8th, MONSTA X's Joohoney, singer WOODZ, and Jung Seung-hwan appeared as guests to have an honest conversation with hosts Yoo Jae-suk and Joo Woo-jae.
Jung Seung-hwan, discussing his recent appearance on a soccer program, humorously confessed, "In the military, I really thought I was Messi." WOODZ responded, "The team was doing well without me," to which Jung Seung-hwan added, "I'm just riding the coattails because the team is good."
Notably, WOODZ identified soccer as the sport he excels at the most and surprised everyone by revealing that he studied soccer in Brazil for two years during his youth. When Yoo Jae-suk asked, "You're a Brazil returnee?", WOODZ explained, "I encountered a wall when I tried to become a professional player. I believe sports are a matter of talent, and I realized I couldn't become a great athlete if I couldn't stand out."
He continued, "My parents didn't want me to pursue sports, but I desperately wanted to keep playing soccer. I researched currency values in different countries and presented them to persuade my parents," reminiscing about his passionate soccer days.
Yoo Jae-suk marveled, "If you had continued with soccer, you would have become a different kind of star, a 'soccer legend', with popularity distinct from your current fame," and Joohoney added, "If you had become a player, 'Drowning' wouldn't exist," adding to the amusement.
During the broadcast, Jung Seung-hwan openly shared his thoughts on his soccer skills, joking, 'I thought I was a soccer prodigy too...'. Netizens commented, 'Seung-hwan is so cute lol', 'Still, it's amazing he keeps appearing on soccer shows, his passion must be great', and 'WOODZ's soccer scholarship story is really incredible! He must have great athletic abilities too', sharing their amusement.
