The show ‘Brave Detectives 4’ has once again stirred public outrage with the revelation of a heinous crime: a wife and her lover murdered the husband to claim 1.1 billion won in insurance money, driven by massive debts.

The 57th episode, aired on the 7th on E채널’s ‘Brave Detectives 4’, featured the harrowing stories of two separate cases. The first involved a couple drowning in approximately 930 million won of debt due to business failure.

The husband, who had been working away from home during weekdays to manage their finances, disappeared after telling his wife he was meeting a creditor. Initially suspected of kidnapping, the case turned into a murder investigation when his car was found abandoned, with his body discovered in the trunk.

Investigators uncovered that the wife had taken out six life insurance policies on her husband just two months prior to his disappearance, with her mother listed as the sole beneficiary. This raised suspicions, leading to her identification as a prime suspect. Further investigation into phone records and financial transactions revealed frequent contact between the wife and another man, identified as her lover, around the time of the husband's disappearance. Their illicit affair was corroborated by eyewitness accounts of them traveling together and even living in a shared studio apartment.

Ultimately, the wife, her lover, and the lover’s friend were arrested for orchestrating the husband's murder to claim the insurance money, with which they planned to immigrate to New Zealand. The wife received a 22-year sentence, the lover also 22 years, and the accomplice 8 years.

The second case detailed the brutal murder and sexual assault of a 70-year-old woman living alone. She was found deceased in her small room, semi-nude with her lower garments missing, her body showing signs of severe facial assault and multiple fractures. The scene was chaotic, with bloodstains present, and the perpetrator had left behind his own underwear.

Detectives, suspecting the perpetrator needed transportation, appealed to taxi drivers for information. A crucial tip came from a driver who recalled picking up a nervous male passenger, appearing to be in his late 20s to early 30s, with dried blood on his forehead and unusually wearing women’s pants. The passenger fled after asking to be dropped off near a villa complex to withdraw cash.

Further investigation led to the discovery of potential bloodstains on a villa doorknob, which forensic analysis matched to the crime scene DNA. The perpetrator was identified as a 29-year-old office worker.

During interrogation, the arrested man made baffling statements, claiming the victim was a woman in her 40s or 50s and admitting to entering an unlocked house while intoxicated and assaulting the woman. He shamelessly remarked, “I guess I felt like raping her.” Despite the horrific nature of the crime, he received a 9-year sentence, factoring in diminished mental capacity and an agreement with the victim’s family, further fueling public anger.

Korean netizens expressed strong outrage, commenting, 'This is inhuman. How could someone do that to a 70-year-old grandmother...', 'The wife and her lover who killed the husband for insurance money deserve hell,' and 'Nine years for diminished capacity? It's unthinkable considering the victim's suffering.' The public outcry highlights the revulsion towards the perpetrators' cruelty and the perceived leniency of the sentence.
