Super Junior's Shindong Reveals He and Sunmi Were Audition Mates: 'I Ranked First, She Went to JYP'

Super Junior member Shindong shared a surprising anecdote about his past with singer Sunmi.

On the JTBC entertainment show 'Knowing Bros,' which aired on the 8th, Sunmi appeared as a guest alongside Lee Chan-won and Song Min-jun for a 'Solo Singers' special.

During the broadcast, Kim Heechul, noting Sunmi's return to the show after five years, remarked, "I saw photos, didn't you and Shindong train together back in the day?"

Shindong confirmed, "We were audition同期 (dòngqí - audition mates)," leading Kim Heechul to joke, "Sunmi almost joined Super Junior! They were deciding between her and Shindong, but Shindong debuted. It's a shame."

Shindong then revealed, "This might be apologetic to Sunmi, but I actually came in first place in that audition. I was cast and debuted with Super Junior. Sunmi was taken by the casting team to JYP at that time," drawing attention.

Kim Heechul humorously added, "So if Sunmi had ranked first, would she have become a Super Junior member and Shindong debuted with Wonder Girls?" This comment sent the studio into laughter.
