Singer Jeong Dong-won, 18, has received a probationary indictment from prosecutors regarding charges of unlicensed driving.

The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office acknowledged the violation of the Road Traffic Act (unlicensed driving) but decided not to refer the case to trial, taking into account Jeong Dong-won's young age, his status as a first-time offender, and the fact that he was only 16 at the time, when he was ineligible to obtain a driver's license.

He was reportedly driving a vehicle without a license on roads in Hadong, Gyeongsangnam-do, in 2023. At the time, it was also reported that he was subjected to extortion using a video of his unlicensed driving.

Previously, Jeong Dong-won received a similar probationary indictment in 2023 for unlicensed driving of a motorcycle on the Dongbu Expressway in Seoul, making this his second such incident.

Jeong Dong-won's agency stated that they will strengthen guidance and education to prevent recurrence and take legal action following the incident.

Jeong Dong-won's agency added, "He has earnestly cooperated with the investigation and is deeply reflecting on this incident as an opportunity for further self-awareness." They also stated, "We will strive harder to ensure he thoroughly understands traffic laws before driving and develops safe driving habits." Fans commented, "Although he made a mistake at a young age, his remorse is evident," and "We hope he will be more careful to prevent such incidents from happening again."
