ITZY Announces November 10 Comeback with New Mini-Album 'TUNNEL VISION'
Get ready, MIDZY! ITZY is set to make their highly anticipated comeback on November 10 with their new mini-album, 'TUNNEL VISION.'
This release marks their first comeback in approximately five months since their June album, 'Girls Will Be Girls.' The new album centers around the keyword 'immersion,' promising a deeper narrative, a richer variety of musical genres, and a cohesive flow.
'TUNNEL VISION' features a total of six tracks, including the title song of the same name, 'Focus,' 'DYT,' 'Flicker,' 'Nocturne,' and '8-BIT HEART.' Adding to the album's appeal, renowned American songwriter and producer Dem Jointz, K-pop hitmaker Kenzie, and all ITZY members have contributed to the credits, ensuring a high level of quality.
The title track, 'TUNNEL VISION,' delves into the precarious balance between heightened senses and sensory deprivation within a tunnel vision state. It conveys a message of pursuing one's own light at their own pace, found within self-chosen immersion. The song is a dance track built on a hip-hop beat with a weighty brass sound, amplified by layered vocal arrangements.
Ahead of the album's release, Yeji, Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna shared their thoughts on the new album and title track.
When asked about their feelings on returning after five months, ITZY expressed, "We are so happy to be releasing a new album and can't wait to meet our fans. We want to show a different, amazing side of ourselves, making people think, ‘ITZY can do this too.’ Please look forward to an even more leveled-up ITZY! Since we're coming back in November, we also want to earn the title, ‘Year-end performances are best with ITZY!’ (laughs)."
Describing the album in one word or sentence, Yeji chose 'dream,' stating, "We wanted to incorporate our sincerity towards music, performance, and the stage, and our desire to do well. Our goal is for many people to immerse themselves in our music and love it." Ryujin described it as a 'destination,' explaining, "This album contains the message of ‘running towards my goals,’ which connects to our previous message of ‘love yourself.’" Chaeryeong picked 'immersion,' adding, "Perhaps it's the feeling of loving yourself when you're focused on a goal."
Regarding their current immersions, Lia mentioned, "All of us members were immersed in preparing for the comeback." Ryujin shared, "I tend to get immersed in OTT series or movies." She also pointed to Yeji as the member who showed the 'peak of immersion,' saying, "Yeji unnie! She even bleached her hair and worked hard to show a new look for this album."
On the title track 'TUNNEL VISION,' Yeji described it as 'restraint,' noting, "It's a song that creates tension right before exploding. The precarious atmosphere doubles its charm." Lia called it 'aura,' adding, "You can feel the raw charisma. My narration of ‘Focus’ is the point to listen for." Ryujin highlighted, "The point is how each of our five personalities shines through while also showcasing our energy as a team." Chaeryeong stated, "We tried our best to capture the feel of the new beat and Afro genre that ITZY is trying for the first time." Yuna chose 'sensory deprivation,' concluding, "The performance, which you can't take your eyes off from beginning to end, is a highlight. Lia unnie's ‘Focus’ part is especially the killing part; her gaze is amazing."
Reflecting on the music video, Yeji recalled laughing with the members about rumors of them filming a ketchup commercial after fans spotted them on set, joking, "It would be great if it became real!" Yuna hoped, "We hope many people enjoy watching the music video, as it has a charm that reveals new perspectives the more you watch it."
Discussing the choreography, ITZY revealed, "We've incorporated grooves and precise movements inspired by Afro and hip-hop dance, along with formations that represent a tunnel. There are various killing parts, from isolations to a choreography where we line up and shoot like guns, so it will be full of viewing fun."
When asked about their stage presence, ITZY recalled their performance at the Taipei Dome, expressing, "Even though it was a huge stage, so many MIDZY were there with us. Seeing the cheering sticks light up the venue made us so happy and grateful." They added, "We'd pick our healthy energy and creating the stage together with the audience as our charms!"
Looking ahead to their third world tour, ITZY shared their excitement, "We're already thrilled and looking forward to it. You'll see stages filled with closeness, solidarity, and our diverse charms." They promised, "We'll work hard to show many new sides of us five members and deliver performances packed with viewing pleasure! Please look forward to it!"
Reflecting on their 7th anniversary and the new chapter the album represents, Yeji said, "We were able to run this far because Lia, Ryujin, Chaeryeong, and Yuna were here. It was more enjoyable and happy because we were together, and I'm especially grateful to the members who embraced every moment with us. We want to fully feel the time we spend together at our own pace and repay the love we've received with our music. We also want to become a proud artist for our fans."
Lia added, "What we've been through together has made us closer now, and I'm excited to see how much stronger we'll become with future experiences!" Ryujin encouraged, "In a way, this new album and comeback are a pledge for our future activities. Members, you've worked hard, let's keep fighting!" Chaeryeong remarked, "It's amazing it's already been 7 years, and I'm grateful we've come this far smoothly. Members! Thank you so much, and let's do well in the future!" Yuna expressed, "To my members who ran hard together, you worked hard. I think I was able to grow because you were always by my side. Thank you and I love you!"
Finally, addressing their fans, MIDZY, ITZY stated, "Thanks to your constant love and support by our side, we were able to overcome difficulties and feel even greater joy in happy moments. Thank you for helping us realize our precious feelings, and we'll strive to become an even more reliable presence. We want to continue building precious memories together for a long, long time. We'll always work hard to show you only our best sides. Let's continue to do well together. Always stay healthy and happy!"
