Kim Hee-sun on 'Young-40s' Controversy: 'Living According to My Age is Both Fortunate and Difficult'
Actress Kim Hee-sun has shared her candid thoughts on the trending term 'Young-40s'.
At the production presentation for TV Chosun's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'No More Next Life,' held on the afternoon of the 10th at Stanford Hotel Korea in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, Kim Hee-sun addressed the issue.
'No More Next Life' is a comedic coming-of-age drama that tells the story of three friends in their 40s, weary of the daily grind and struggling to find a better 'complete life.'
The term 'Young-40s,' referring to 40-year-olds who live youthfully, has recently become popular, though it is sometimes used with negative connotations by the younger generation.
Kim Hee-sun remarked, 'I'm at the tail end of being 'Young-40s'.' She added, 'The term 'Young-40s' didn't originally have that meaning, but it seems to have been slightly distorted.'
She continued, 'Trying too hard to look young can be counterproductive. Living according to my age is both fortunate and difficult. It's not easy to live ordinarily and age-appropriately,' revealing her honest feelings.
Fellow actress Han Hye-jin also expressed her positive feelings, stating, 'I think, 'It's okay to be that age too.' We want to show younger generations through our drama that being in your 40s is perfectly fine,' eliciting laughter.
Korean netizens responded with comments like, 'Kim Hee-sun is right,' 'Being in your 40s is still cool and beautiful,' and 'Looking forward to the drama,' showing their agreement.
