Paul Kim Shares Candid Thoughts Ahead of 'Veiled Musician' Premiere: 'Korea Needs to Step Up Our Game'

As the groundbreaking global vocal competition, 'Veiled Musician,' prepares for its premiere on Netflix this December 12th, judge Paul Kim has shared his honest feelings about the upcoming show.

'Veiled Musician' marks a historic first in the audition world, promising a fair and unique competition where participants are judged solely on their vocal prowess and musicality, with their identities concealed behind veils.

Even before the official start, the star-studded judging panel expressed a mix of excitement and nervousness. Paul Kim and Shin Yong-jae, who were among the first to arrive on set, marveled at the show's grand scale. Ailee conveyed her anticipation for the audition process, which spans across various Asian countries, calling it "truly massive" and wondering, "Who will truly captivate our ears?"

Bolbbalgan4, making their debut as judges after their own audition success, shared, "It feels like a dream. I've always been on that stage." They emphasized that "distinct individuality is the key evaluation criterion."

Bae from KISS OF LIFE, known as a '19-year-old genius composer,' expressed her joy at participating, stating, "I'm just happy to be here. I'm sensitive to sound, drawing from my experience as a performer and composer, so I hope I can be helpful."

Monsta X's Kihyun, a trusted main vocalist, noted, "I've experienced many auditions, and our group's start was through one. No matter how hidden, nervousness is inevitable." He added, "I want to focus on how well they hide mistakes and how they carry a song to the end."

Paul Kim particularly commented on the high caliber of contestants from various Asian nations. "There are truly strong contenders in the audition scenes from each Asian country. It makes me think that perhaps Korea needs to try a little harder this time," he confessed, emphasizing, "We really need to do a good job judging."

Hosted by Choi Daniel, 'Veiled Musician' will feature judges Paul Kim, Ailee, Shin Yong-jae, Kihyun, Bolbbalgan4, and Bae leading the Korean contingent. The show premieres on Netflix on December 12th.
