MBC's new variety show 'Chef in Antarctica,' featuring The Born Korea CEO Baek Jong-won, is set to premiere on the 17th, but not without controversy.

While some civic groups held a press conference opposing the broadcast, citing unresolved issues surrounding The Born Korea, franchise owners are expressing divided opinions.

On the 11th, representatives from groups such as the Yeon-don Bolkats Franchisee Association and the People's Solidarity for Participatory Self-Government rallied in front of the MBC building, demanding the show's cancellation. They argued that airing Baek's program would grant him an unwarranted 'absolution' while controversies linger.

However, a significant number of The Born Korea franchisees and merchants from Yesan Market have voiced their support for the show's broadcast. They believe Baek's appearances bolster their businesses and are eager for the program's release.

Lee In-young, head of the Hong Kong Banjeom Franchisee Council under The Born Korea's Win-Win Committee, stated, "Honestly, our sales as franchisees depend on these broadcasts." She added, "We launched our brands inspired by Baek Jong-won's fame, so telling him not to appear on TV is contradictory."

Lee Kang-min, owner of Kwangsi Castella in Yesan Market, echoed this sentiment: "Customers flocked to our stores when Baek Jong-won was actively promoting. It's beneficial for us merchants if he appears on TV."

The Born Korea recently faced investigations concerning several alleged violations. While some charges were dismissed, others have been forwarded to the prosecution. A representative for The Born Korea stated, "Baek Jong-won has concluded filming for his current programs and is focusing on company management and fostering mutual growth."

Ahead of the premiere, franchise owners are split on Baek Jong-won's 'Chef in Antarctica.' While some welcome the broadcast, believing it will boost sales, others echo civic groups' calls for postponement due to ongoing controversies. Netizens commented, "We rely on Baek Jong-won's broadcasts for sales," and "I hope he appears more, just as the owners wish, to promote more." showing support for the owners' stance.
