NewJeans' Hyein and Haerin Express Desire to Return to ADOR Amidst Contract Dispute
NewJeans members Hyein and Haerin have reportedly expressed their intention to continue their activities with ADOR, sparking widespread interest in the reasons behind their decision, especially as only two members have made this announcement.
ADOR confirmed on the 12th that both Haerin and Hyein have conveyed their desire to proceed with activities under the agency. This comes approximately 11 months after the group declared the termination of their exclusive contracts with ADOR due to the latter's alleged breaches of contract.
The K-pop scene is keenly observing this development, as it follows a prolonged and contentious legal battle. NewJeans had argued for the termination of their contracts, citing a breakdown in trust with their agency. However, a court ruling on the 30th of last month largely favored ADOR, stating that there were "no grounds for termination of the contract based on the breakdown of trust."
While NewJeans' legal representatives, Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, announced their intention to "immediately appeal," legal circles widely anticipate ADOR's victory in the second trial as well, unless compelling new evidence emerges. This implies that NewJeans' claims have not been upheld by the court.
Speculation suggests that Haerin and Hyein's decision to return may be influenced by the approaching deadline for filing an appeal. Despite Bae, Kim & Lee LLC's stated intention to appeal, no appeal has been filed over ten days later, with the deadline set for midnight on the 13th.
Although an appeal is still possible, it's being suggested that disagreements among members, including Haerin and Hyein, and their families regarding the appeal may have expedited their decision to return. With ADOR's win in the first trial appearing increasingly likely, there are growing expectations that other members might also decide to return.
In response, a HYBE representative stated, "It is inappropriate to comment on members other than the two who are returning."
Korean netizens are reacting with a mix of confusion and curiosity. Comments include, "Are they siding with Min Hee-jin again...?", "What about the other members? This is so confusing," and "So they're continuing with ADOR after all... Should we wish them well?" Many expressed uncertainty about the diverging paths of the members and the future of NewJeans.
