Singer Ivy Reveals Surprising Debut Story on 'Radio Star': 'J.Y. Park Pushed Me to Be a Dance Singer'
Singer and musical actress Ivy shared the behind-the-scenes story of her explosive debut on the MBC entertainment show 'Radio Star'.
Appearing on the broadcast aired on the 12th, Ivy, who has established herself as a prominent musical actress, reminisced about her past as a powerful new female dance solo artist, following in the footsteps of stars like Uhm Jung-hwa, Kim Wan-sun, and Baek Ji-young.
Her hit song 'The Scent of Flowers' notably featured bold choreography, a story she delved into during the show.
However, Ivy originally prepared to be a ballad singer. She explained, "My agency had Lee Soo-young and Liz. For my first album, JYP's Park Jin-young produced it, and I had to sing with the 'half air, half sound' technique. Since I had trained as a ballad singer, I wanted ballad songs. But Park Jin-young suggested dance training."
She continued, "After a month of training, he told me to be a dance singer and even gave me the stage name 'Ivy.' He's like a father figure to me." Ivy also revealed, "Park Jin-young even picked out my debut stage outfit, brought dancers from America, and filmed the music video on location in LA. I was JYP's big new rookie."
Ivy concluded by showcasing her transformed vocal technique as a musical actress, earning admiration from the audience.
Netizens commented on her revelations, with some saying, "I was curious about Ivy's debut story, it's fascinating," and "Park Jin-young's producing skills are truly amazing." Others noted, "Honestly, a dance singer suited her so well."
