2007-Born Idols Face College Entrance Exam Crossroads: Study or Spotlight?

As the 2026 College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) approaches on November 13th, attention is turning to the paths chosen by idols born in 2007, who are eligible to take the exam.

While some are heading to examination halls with their test admission tickets, others have opted to prioritize their burgeoning careers on stage. Though their choices differ, the underlying motivation for each path is a deliberate 'career design during their golden age.'

**◇ The 'Two-Track' Strategy: School and Stage**

Despite demanding schedules, several idols are committed to pursuing higher education through the CSAT. Han Yu-jin of ZEROBASEONE is a prime example, balancing his studies amidst a year packed with world tours and global activities.

Kyungmin of TWS, Donghyun of Kick Pung, Yusarang of EZN, and Park Ha-yuchan of The Wind are also among those taking the exam. These artists have juggled their academic responsibilities with their careers since their debut.

Kyungmin shared words of encouragement: "I send my support to all the test-takers! I'll do my best on the exam too."

Their decision reflects a commitment to a long-term career in the entertainment industry. By pursuing studies in fields like theater and film or practical music, they aim to broaden their artistic spectrum – a clear 'two-track career strategy.'

**◇ Stars Choosing the Stage Amidst Their Peak**

The era where immediate university enrollment was considered essential is over. In recent years, idols experiencing a steep rise in their careers are strategically postponing the CSAT to focus on their prime performance years, viewing it as a more practical choice.

Seo, a member of IVE, has decided not to take the CSAT after extensive discussions with her agency, Starship Entertainment. The agency stated, "After careful consideration, we decided that Seo wishes to focus on IVE's activities for now. University admission will be considered in the future when she can dedicate more focus, based on the artist's wishes."

This decision echoes the path taken by her fellow IVE member, Jang Won-young, who previously prioritized her career over taking the CSAT.

Wonhee of ILLIT, Ahyeon and Ramy of BABYMONSTER, Eun Chae of LE SSERAFIM, and Yuha and Stella of Hearts to Hearts are among the numerous idols born in 2007 who have chosen to concentrate on their current activities. This reflects the harsh reality of the K-pop industry, where missing out on the peak of their career momentum is seen as a significant opportunity cost.

**◇ The Fading 'Mandatory Formula': A Juncture in Idol Careers**

A decade ago, agencies often publicized their idols taking the CSAT. However, recent years have seen a minimized on-site presence, prioritizing the candidates' privacy and avoiding disruption to other examinees.

The notion of the CSAT being a mandatory step has diminished. Even if not taken now, idols can pursue higher education later when their schedules permit. Therefore, delaying university enrollment is seen as more advantageous during their active peak.

A K-entertainment industry insider commented, "Whether they take the CSAT or not, the common goal for each individual is 'career design' based on their current circumstances. University admission is no longer a mandatory gateway to success, but has shifted to serving as a 'juncture' for planning beyond success."

Netizens commented, 'Idols these days have such packed schedules, it must be so hard to study too,' 'It seems like a wise choice tailored to their own careers,' and 'They can study later when they want to, so it's a smart decision,' showing support for the idols' choices.
