Comedienne Mi-ja Reveals Past Depression Led to Severe Disregard for Parents
Comedienne Mi-ja has revealed her past struggles with severe depression, which led her to act with extreme disrespect towards her parents.
On the YouTube channel 'Narae Sik,' which released its episode on the afternoon of the 12th, Mi-ja appeared and shared her story.
Park Na-rae mentioned Mi-ja's second act in life, stating, 'We've been friends for 13 years, but I only heard the full story from Dr. Oh Eun-young on 'Geumjjok Counseling Center.' She hadn't spoken about it for 10 years.'
Mi-ja explained, 'I don't usually talk about my own stories, and also, talking about interpersonal relationships might be a sensitive area for both of us. So, even though we met almost every day back then, I never brought it up,' she explained.
Previously, Mi-ja appeared on Channel A's 'Geumjjok Counseling Center' in 2022 and confessed to being severely bullied by her fellow comedians. At the time, Mi-ja had secluded herself for three years due to depression caused by the bullying.
Park Na-rae recalled, 'What made me cry a lot was thinking, 'I was arrogant to think I knew this unni so well. Why didn't I know this sadness, and why did I keep calling her out for my own comfort?' It felt so sorry that I always asked to meet her because it was so comfortable, only to vent my own hardships and suggest we have fun,' she reminisced.
Mi-ja confessed, 'No, Na-rae, you are my benefactor. You brought me back into the outside world. Truly, after I left MBC and due to various situations and the many wounds caused by people, I suffered from severe depression. At that time, I only thought about dying. To the extent that I showed so much disrespect to my parents,' she shared.
She continued, 'First of all, I didn't leave my room. I just stayed in my room. Later, I felt like I was going crazy. I even asked my dad to kill me. That was a state of being out of my mind, not in my right senses. I spent three years like that,' she added.
Mi-ja then mentioned, 'I had an agency back then, but they didn't pay much attention because I had no work. But I suddenly got a call. They said there was a performance called 'Deurep Girls' and that I 'had to do it.' But my mind was already elsewhere, not on broadcast, so I refused. Then they told me to pay a penalty,' she said.
Mi-ja stated, 'I received 1.5 million won as a deposit, but the penalty was three times that, so I had to pay 4 to 5 million won. It was an impossible situation. (So I did it.) I had no thoughts of being on broadcast at all, I hadn't met anyone for years, and when I met strangers, my hands and feet would tremble with fear,' she mentioned the situation at the time.
Korean netizens expressed their support, commenting things like 'Mi-ja, you've been through so much,' 'Park Na-rae is truly a lifesaver,' and 'You've overcome difficult times well.'
