Disney+ Accelerates Asia Push: Eric Schrier Highlights 'Local Originals' as Key Strategy

Disney+ is stepping up its efforts in the Asian market. At the '2025 Disney+ APAC & Global Content Lineup Announcement' held on December 13th (local time) at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Eric Schrier, President of Disney Television Studios and Global Original Television Strategy, emphasized 'local original content' as the core of Disney+'s strategy.

The event saw over 400 media representatives from 14 countries, including South Korea, gather to attend, demonstrating keen interest in Disney's content strategy for the upcoming year. The 'Disney+ Original Preview 2025' showcased a wide range of original productions from the Asia-Pacific region, including South Korea and Japan, alongside its general entertainment lineup.

Schrier stated, "Stories that reflect the culture and emotions of each region are complementing our global lineup." He particularly praised, "The creativity shown by Asian creators, especially from South Korea and Japan, is highly impressive, and strong local stories will expand beyond borders." Carol Choi, Head of Integrated Marketing and Original Content Strategy, APAC, at The Walt Disney Company, added, "The 'Local for Local' strategy truly comes alive when it's perfectly executed."

The two leaders also noted that short, high-density content and diverse format experiments are global trends, suggesting that Disney+ will align with these movements. Schrier concluded by emphasizing, "The core of a good partnership is trust. Disney's philosophy is not to control creators, but to help them achieve their best."
