ILLIT Shatters Records: 'Magnetic' Becomes Fastest K-Pop Debut Song to Hit 700 Million Spotify Streams
Girl group ILLIT is making waves even before their comeback, setting a new record on the world's largest music streaming platform, Spotify.
According to their agency Belift Lab, ILLIT's debut mini-album title track ‘Magnetic’ surpassed 700,177,970 streams as of June 12th. This marks the shortest time ever for a K-pop group's debut song to reach this significant streaming milestone on Spotify, highlighting the group's immense global popularity.
Released in March last year, ‘Magnetic’ captivated listeners with its witty lyrics comparing the feeling of attraction to a magnet and its addictive melody. The song's signature point choreography, utilizing finger movements, sparked a global dance challenge craze.
The song's phenomenal success is evident across various metrics. Not only did ‘Magnetic’ dominate major domestic music charts, but it also made history as the first and fastest K-pop debut song to enter the U.S. Billboard Main Song Chart 'Hot 100' and the UK Official 'Singles Top 100'. Despite being released over a year and seven months ago, the track continues to maintain its popularity on domestic music charts, showcasing its enduring appeal.
Beyond ‘Magnetic’, ILLIT has achieved over 100 million streams on Spotify for three other tracks: ‘Lucky Girl Syndrome’, ‘Cherish (My Love)’, and ‘Tick-Tack’. Their total accumulated streams across all their releases on Spotify now exceed 1.9 billion.
Meanwhile, ILLIT is set to release their new single album ‘NOT CUTE ANYMORE’ on June 24th. The title track, sharing the same name as the album, expresses a desire to move beyond a purely cute image, and the group has been heightening anticipation with their diverse, quirky, and wild concept photos.
Korean netizens are buzzing with excitement, commenting, "ILLIT truly is amazing! 'Magnetic' is such a masterpiece!", "700 million streams? Incredible for a debut song!", and "Can't wait for the comeback and to see the new song performed!". Many expressed surprise at the record set by a debut track and showed high expectations for their future activities.
