H.O.T.'s Former Dorm Revealed After 29 Years on 'House Hunters'
The former dorm where the 1st-generation idol group H.O.T. lived during their active years has been revealed on television for the first time in 29 years, sparking a wave of nostalgia.
In the latest episode (324) of MBC's variety show 'House Hunters,' which aired on the 13th, hosts Kim Dae-ho and Yang Se-chan, along with Younghoon from the group THE BOYZ, visited the Noryangjin area in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, to celebrate the end of the 2026 college entrance exams.
Younghoon led the group to a house in Heukseok-dong, Dongjak-gu, introducing it as, "A house where a senior idol used to live is now on the market." This property turned out to be the very dorm where H.O.T. members resided together in the late 1990s.
Unlike today's idols who often live in new apartment complexes, first-generation idols frequently set up their dorms in residential housing areas. The revealed house is a three-story building that underwent renovations three years ago. Viewers were captivated by the neatly organized kitchen and a 'dog room' described as being larger than Kim Dae-ho's own room.
The house boasts a spacious auxiliary kitchen, a second-floor balcony that feels like a yard, and a high-ceilinged attic offering Han River views. Yang Se-chan expressed his amazement, commenting, "Wow, the hyungs lived in such a big house."
The property, spanning approximately 73 pyeong (about 241 square meters), is listed for sale at 4.5 billion KRW (approximately $3.3 million USD), with a market price of 60 million KRW per pyeong. It's also noted that rental income could be generated from the first-floor commercial space.
H.O.T., who debuted in 1996 and pioneered the idol era of the late 1990s, used this dorm as a space to live together and prepare for their performances. It stands as a meaningful location offering a glimpse into the idol culture of that time.
Netizens who watched the broadcast commented, "Wow, H.O.T.'s dorm, it brings back so many memories," "Compared to idols' dorms nowadays, this is really spacious," and "The house seems to hold onto the sensibility of that era."
