Cheon Rok-dam Delivers Emotional 'Love Call Center' Performance, Recalling 'Trot King' Journey
Singer Cheon Rok-dam moved viewers with a deeply emotional trot performance on TV Chosun's 'Love Call Center - Seven Stars.'
Appearing on the 'Wonderful Man' special episode aired on the 13th, Cheon Rok-dam chose Baek Nan-a's 'Jjillekkot' (Wild Rose), opting for a traditional trot rendition.
The episode featured the TOP7 members divided into two teams, 'Wonderful Man' and 'Real Man,' for a singing competition.
Before the main event, Cheon Rok-dam joined Lee Sang-woo, Son Bin-a, and Chun Gil for a collaborative stage of Lee Sang-woo's legendary hit, '100M Before Meeting Her.' When asked about the TOP7 member with the most star potential, Lee Sang-woo confidently selected Cheon Rok-dam, stating, "I know his musical foundation. I believe he will continue to do well."
In his first solo battle against Chu Hyuk-jin, Cheon Rok-dam opened with his clear, resonant voice. He showcased a powerful yet delicate vocal style with expert melisma, breathing deep emotion into the song. His solid vocal technique and masterful control of tempo allowed him to fully express the lyrical depth, captivating the audience and securing a victory.
Cheon Rok-dam debuted in 2002 as part of the five-member group Seven Days before going solo in 2003, gaining popularity with hits like 'Just a Sigh' and 'Don't Make Me Cry.' However, he faced a significant challenge in 2023 when diagnosed with kidney cancer.
Reflecting on his battle, he shared, "I never imagined I would get cancer. Through my treatment, I realized what's truly precious and became grateful for everything." He made a triumphant return last year by placing third overall in 'Mister Trot 3.' Notably, the day of the finals was exactly two years after his kidney cancer surgery.
"My life is divided into before and after my kidney cancer surgery," he said, adding, "I've sung for 24 years, and this is the first award I've ever received." Tearfully, he expressed his gratitude, "I'm thankful to Lee Jung, who endured well to help me become Cheon Rok-dam."
Cheon Rok-dam plans to continue his active music career through various stages and broadcasts, including the 'Mister Trot 3' national tour concert and 'Love Call Center - Seven Stars.'
Korean netizens reacted enthusiastically, with comments like, 'Cheon Rok-dam's voice is amazing!', 'I've been supporting him since Mister Trot 3, and his stage performances are always touching,' and 'Please continue to share great music with us!'
