Gong Yoo Playfully Pouts Over 'Uncle' Nickname on Set, Contrasting Song Hye-kyo's 'Unnie'
Actor Gong Yoo humorously expressed his mild displeasure over the nickname he received on a snack gift at the filming set, highlighting a funny contrast with his co-star Song Hye-kyo.
On the 14th, Gong Yoo shared a photo on his Instagram story featuring a bag of snacks. A note attached to the bag read, 'For Dong-gu Uncle.'
Adding a witty caption to the photo, Gong Yoo wrote, 'I'm really grateful too, but Dong-gu is an uncle and Min-ja is an unnie...?', playfully voicing his complaint about the honorifics.
'Dong-gu' is the character played by Gong Yoo, and 'Min-ja' is the character played by Song Hye-kyo in writer Noh Hee-kyung's new drama, tentatively titled 'Slowly Intensively' (가제).
Although they play friends in the drama, Gong Yoo, born in 1979, is two years older than Song Hye-kyo, who was born in 1981. Gong Yoo's humorous reaction stems from the fact that the sender used their character names, referring to his character as 'Uncle' while calling Song Hye-kyo's character 'Unnie' (older sister).
Meanwhile, the new Netflix series 'Slowly Intensively,' starring Gong Yoo and Song Hye-kyo, is set to depict the fierce stories of individuals who risked everything to achieve dazzling success in the Korean entertainment industry during the turbulent years of the 1960s-80s. The series also features Kim Seol-hyun, Cha Seung-won, and Lee Hanee, with a planned release in 2026.
Netizens found the situation amusing, commenting, 'LOL, Gong Yoo is so cute,' and 'It's hilarious because they used character names!' Others noted, 'Song Hye-kyo was called 'Unnie,' guess her timeless beauty is confirmed!'
