U-Know Yunho Opens Up About His Hit Song 'Thank U' Going Viral as a Meme
TVXQ!'s U-Know Yunho recently shared his candid thoughts on his song 'Thank U' unexpectedly gaining viral fame as a meme.
Appearing on the 'Legendary Masters' segment of KBS Cool FM's 'Park Myung Soo's Radio Show' on the 16th, U-Know discussed his new song 'Stretch' and reminisced about his past hits.
Host Park Myung Soo introduced U-Know, noting, "We have an intense passion man coming today, so get your energy levels up." He praised U-Know's enduring passion, saying, "He's young, but his passion is as fiery as ever." Park Myung Soo also highlighted U-Know's remarkable career, stating, "It's been 22 years, yet he's still on par with many current idols, and is apparently a mentor to them."
In response, U-Know humbly shared, "Groups like RIIZE sometimes come to me for advice right before their debut. I advise them as a senior on how to maintain their unique color on stage and have fun, leaving the technical aspects of singing and dancing to the professionals."
When asked about the viral success of 'Thank U,' which became a popular meme with phrases like 'First Lesson,' U-Know confessed, "I'm very grateful, but it was an album I poured my heart and soul into. It even featured senior actor Hwang Jung-min in the music video, which was rated 19+. So, it felt a bit bittersweet to become famous through a meme and get the nickname 'Lesson-jwa'."
He continued, "It was a bit sad to gain fame in a different way, but honestly, I'm thankful. Because of this song, even elementary school students gave me nicknames like 'Lesson Uncle' or 'Lesson Bro.'", showcasing a positive outlook.
Netizens commented, "U-Know Yunho is indeed full of passion!", "The 'Lesson-jwa' meme was funny, but I hope he gains more fame for positive reasons," and "It's amazing how he's remained consistent for over 20 years."
