IVE's Jang Won-young Triggers 'Olle-shot' Craze: A New Wellness Routine for Women in Their 20s and 30s
The 'Olle-shot' habit, popularized by Jang Won-young of girl group IVE, is rapidly becoming a go-to wellness routine among women in their 20s and 30s, sending ripples through the related market.
'Olle-shot' refers to the healthy practice of consuming a mixture of olive oil and lemon juice on an empty stomach in the morning. Its popularity surged through social media, fueled by celebrity endorsements from figures like actress Uhm Jung-hwa, Go So-young, and Hollywood star Penélope Cruz, in addition to Jang Won-young.
Data from the consumer search analysis platform Ahha Trend reveals that searches for olive oil have topped the food and ingredients category on major search engines, surpassing even popular items like chicken, kimbap, and coffee. In August alone, olive oil search volume reached a staggering 310,000 queries.
This 'Olle-shot' phenomenon has spurred the launch of convenient, single-serving products such as stick and capsule types. Previously, consumers had to purchase olive oil bottles and mix them with lemon juice themselves. Now, with portable, disposable options, the health drink can be consumed anytime, anywhere.
An industry insider commented, "Olive oil is rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and oleic acid, beneficial for improving blood cholesterol and cardiovascular health. Its antioxidants, like polyphenols and vitamin E, also help combat aging and boost immunity." They added, "The trend is driven by word-of-mouth from celebrities and influencers, coupled with its appeal as a simple yet effective wellness routine."
The 'Olle-shot' is gaining traction as an inner beauty staple among women in their 20s and 30s, promoted by influencers for its potential weight management benefits, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, and contribution to healthy aging. Notably, Jang Won-young's influence extends to her top ranking in November's girl group brand reputation index, surpassing Jennie and Rosé of BLACKPINK.
Fans are reacting with admiration for Jang Won-young's influence, commenting things like 'Thanks to Jang Won-young, I'm taking better care of my health,' 'I need to try Olle-shot too,' and 'No wonder olive oil gifts are so popular lately.'
