Trot Sensation Kang Moon-kyung Joins 'Nameless Legends' as a New 'Legend'
Trot sensation Kang Moon-kyung is embarking on a new challenge by joining MBN's grand audition program 'Nameless Legends - The Ranking War of Trot Gentlemen' (hereinafter 'Nameless Legends') as a new 'Legend'.
On the 17th, MBN announced that Kang Moon-kyung was selected as the sixth Legend, following Nam Jin, Cho Hang-jo, Ju Hyun-mi, Shin Yu, and Son Tae-jin. With the addition of Kang Moon-kyung, who solidified his status as a sensation through 'The Legend of Singers 2', anticipation for the program is soaring.
Kang Moon-kyung, who will be facing his first audition as a judge, revealed his unique criteria. He stated, "I want to find singers who can touch the hearts of the listeners more than pitch or skill," and added, "People call me 'Ppong-shin' but I'm actually a relentless practice bug. I stand on stage only after practicing every single lyric and pronunciation until it's perfect," expressing his resolve to focus on sincerity and potential.
Kang Moon-kyung is a protagonist who wrote a story of life transformation after enduring a long period of obscurity. After his debut in 2014, he went through a lengthy unknown phase. However, in 2020, he received immense support from viewers on SBS's 'The Trot Show Is Coming 2 – Last Chance' by honestly sharing the difficulties he faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. He ultimately won the championship with his performance of 'My Father's River' in the finals, earning him the symbolic nickname 'Ppong-shin'.
Subsequently, on 'The Legend of Singers 2', he proved his deepened musical prowess. His performance of 'Mangmo', sung while reminiscing about his late grandmother, deeply moved not only the judges, including Seol Woon-do, but also the viewers. He ranked second in the first round of the semi-finals, and the performance is still talked about as a 'legendary stage'. Although he finished the season in seventh place, his stage videos continue to garner consistent views, helping to build a solid fandom.
With Kang Moon-kyung's participation, 'Nameless Legends' has completed its lineup of top trot judges. This program aims to move beyond auditions centered on 'famous singers' and provide a stage for aspiring singers and trot enthusiasts with diverse narratives to gain new opportunities.
'Nameless Legends' is currently recruiting applicants until December 12th. Any male who loves trot, regardless of age, nationality, or experience, can participate. The grand audition program 'Nameless Legends' will premiere on MBN in February 2026.
Meanwhile, Kang Moon-kyung is continuing his concert success, with tickets for his national tour concert 'THE START' Seoul performance selling out completely within 20 minutes of their release. By simultaneously taking on new challenges as an audition judge and embarking on a national tour, he is once again proving his status as the undisputed trot sensation of the current era.
Netizens expressed enthusiastic welcome and anticipation, commenting, 'Congratulations to Kang Moon-kyung on joining Nameless Legends! Looking forward to your great performance as a judge,' 'Ppong-shin Kang Moon-kyung, now a Legend! Show us your real trot skills,' and 'I've been a fan since The Legend of Singers; I'll definitely watch Nameless Legends live!'.
