French Embassy in Korea Partners with Jaedam Media to Introduce French Webtoons to Korean Audience

Jaedam Media announced its collaboration with the French Embassy in Korea to serve French webtoons in Korean. Titled 'FrenchToon Selection,' this contest has selected 10 outstanding webtoons by French artists, which will be introduced to Korean fans.

The selected works will be translated into Korean and made available for free for three months starting March 2026. Jaedam Media plans to sign official contracts with the webtoon that receives the most support from Korean fans and will assist in its activities within Korea.

France, a leading European nation in comics, which regards comics as the '9th art,' is adopting the Korean webtoon format to create its own unique style of French webtoons. The contest received a diverse range of submissions, from works exploring French history and identity to popular genre stories.

This initiative commemorates the 140th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Korea and France and is part of France's strategy to export its cultural and creative industries, supported by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and Business France.

Jaedam Media CEO Hwang Nam-yong stated, "This contest will be an opportunity to secure diversity in webtoon creation," adding, "We will expand the globalization of webtoons through strengthened international cooperation." Pierre Morcos, Cultural Attaché of the French Embassy in Korea, expressed his hope that "this collaboration will introduce talented French artists' works to Korean readers and open new horizons for their activities."
