Jaurim's Kim Yoon-ah Directly Addresses Health Rumors: 'It Was 15 Years Ago, I'm Doing Well Now'
Kim Yoon-ah, the vocalist of the iconic Korean rock band Jaurim, has personally stepped forward to clarify concerns surrounding her health.
Appearing on the KBS1 program 'Morning Yard' on the 18th, Kim Yoon-ah, who is 28 years into her career, addressed the recent surge in news articles about her well-being.
When asked about her feelings on filming a live broadcast early in the morning, she shared, "I was a bit worried about being tired. But coming into the studio, everyone's energy here is so good, I'm also feeling energized and happy."
However, announcer Uhm Ji-in carefully inquired, "I was slightly concerned because there have been many recent news reports saying you were sick. Are you okay?"
To this, Kim Yoon-ah confessed, "I saw them too. Did you mothers see them? But the news about me being sick is from over 15 years ago, and it's being reported so diligently these days. I've been wondering how I should go around with packed lunches saying, 'I'm not sick, I'm healthy, I work the most' lately."
Kim Yoon-ah previously battled facial nerve paralysis. Last year, she revealed on a broadcast, "In 2011, after working on Jaurim's eighth full-length album, my immunity became so weak that I developed facial nerve paralysis. I have a congenital immunodeficiency and still receive monthly treatment. At the time, the paralysis affected my sense of smell, hearing, taste, pain, cold and heat sensitivity, facial muscles, and vagus nerve."
She continued, "Even now, due to the after-effects of the paralysis, a few functions haven't fully returned. To be honest, I have slight vocal cord issues remaining, but I'm suppressing it with effort. Fortunately, my hearing and muscles have recovered to a certain extent, allowing me to work as you see me now. But after that experience, I always thought, 'This might be my last work.' That's why I've been pouring everything into my work even more."
Jaurim's agency had previously explained, "Kim Yoon-ah has a congenital immune disorder and manages her personal health meticulously with monthly regular check-ups and treatments. However, this is unrelated to facial nerve paralysis and does not significantly hinder her activities as an artist." Amidst ongoing misunderstandings, Kim Yoon-ah decided to clarify directly.
Uhm Ji-in encouraged her, "This will definitely become news. Say you're healthy to the camera," prompting Kim Yoon-ah to emphasize, "Hello to the 'Morning Yard' viewers, I, Jaurim's Kim Yoon-ah, am truly healthy and doing well. I'm actively performing, I've released a new album, so there's no need to worry at all. I'll do my best."
Netizens reacted positively to Kim Yoon-ah's direct clarification, expressing relief and support. Comments included, "Finally, some clear news," "Your health is the most important thing," and "We'll continue to cheer you on."
