Ke Huy Quan on Voicing 'Zootopia 2's First CG Snake, Gary: 'Hoped for a Character with a Warm Heart'

At a press conference held by The Walt Disney Company Korea on the morning of the 18th, actor Ke Huy Quan shared his experiences voicing the new character 'Gary' in the upcoming animation 'Zootopia 2'.

Joining virtually alongside voice actress for Judy, Ginnifer Goodwin, and director Jared Bush, Ke Huy Quan expressed his joy at joining the 'Zootopia' franchise as a long-time fan and his deep affection for the character.

"I couldn't believe it when I was offered the role of Gary. I thought my voice wasn't scary," he revealed. "However, I was drawn to the setting of a reptile who has survived for over 100 years and wanted to play the part."

He added, "I felt the warm emotions of this film were important, and I hoped the audience would feel what Gary felt. I wanted him to be seen not just as a scary viper or krait, but as a character with a warm heart."

Director Jared Bush also praised Ke Huy Quan's performance, highlighting that Gary is the first CG snake in a Disney animation. "Gary serves as an emotional anchor in 'Zootopia 2', and I wanted to subvert audience expectations about reptiles," he stated. "I wanted to convey a message about how important and rewarding communication with those who are different from us can be."

'Zootopia 2' is a thrilling chase adventure where the beloved Zootopia duo, Judy and Nick, pursue the mysterious snake Gary into a new world. The film is set to premiere on the 26th.
